A New Chapter for Clean Tech in Vietnam: BUYO at the GEF-UNIDO Inception Meeting

Transforming an economy's relationship with materials doesn't happen overnight — and it rarely happens alone. On 17 December in Hanoi, BUYO Solutions joined the Inception Meeting of a new initiative that brings together some of the most important actors in Vietnam's sustainability landscape to make that transformation real.

The project — formally titled "Accelerating Low-Carbon Circular Economy through Clean Tech Innovation towards Sustainable Development in Viet Nam" — is now officially underway.

What is this initiative about?

The project sits at the intersection of two urgent priorities: decarbonisation and circularity. Vietnam, like much of Southeast Asia, faces the dual challenge of rapid economic growth and mounting environmental pressure. This initiative is designed to unlock the clean technology innovations that can bridge that gap — reducing carbon emissions while keeping materials in productive use for longer.

The inception meeting marked three key milestones:

Alignment — bringing all stakeholders onto a shared understanding of objectives and scope

Pathway-setting — agreeing a collaborative roadmap for cleantech innovation

Momentum — signalling to the broader ecosystem that this work is now moving

Who is driving this forward?
The initiative draws on a strong coalition of organisations with complementary mandates and reach across government, finance, and implementation.

GEF
Global Environment Facility — funding & governance

UNIDO
UN industrial development — technical leadership

MONRE
Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment, Vietnam

ISPAE
Institute for Strategy, Policy on Agriculture & Environment

BUYO's role in the journey ahead
For BUYO Solutions, this inception meeting represents exactly the kind of systemic opportunity we build toward. Our expertise lies in developing sustainable material alternatives — products that are not only biodegradable, but genuinely viable at scale for farms, businesses, and supply chains across the region.

Within this initiative, we look forward to contributing our knowledge of sustainable materials, circular business models, and on-the-ground implementation in agricultural and commercial contexts. Vietnam's ambition to build a low-carbon circular economy aligns closely with what we do every day.

The work is just beginning — and we're glad to be part of it from day one.
